Tree and archeological site protection at Malswick

Following the granting of planning consent for the proposed canal channel recreation work at Malswick, enabling works on site have commenced.

One of the objectives was to protect archeological remains and mature trees from disturbance during the construction work, so a team of volunteers mobilised to site to establish the line of the canal and the margins of the work area and then to provide clear lines of demarcation from the areas to be protected with Herras fencing.

Video footage of the work being undertaken can be seen on YouTube.

A second requirement is to manage existing watercourses where they flow onto or across the line of the proposed canal channel.  One solution where levels permit is to maintain the flow by directing it through a new culvert constructed beneath the bed of the new channel.

An example of such work being undertaken can also be seen on YouTube.
