In October 2015 work commenced at Newent Station.
A dedicated team of volunteers has been established and the original platforms uncovered and undergrowth and debris that had built up over the years was cleared.
As work continued, the wider station area was cleared and opened up, and plans developed to rebuild the station buildings and construct a new canal channel between the platforms.
In 2019 it became clear that ground levels and clearances on the bridge crossing the road alongside the station were incompatible, and a new plan based on a boat lift began to be considered.
