| This
is how the Over Basin site looked as we began 2001. |
| Early
in January the Basin was covered with a thick layer of ice |

| Our
"new" site hut being lifted into place by Joseph Rice Logistics. This will
become our temporary visitor centre. |

| Planting
hedging along the towpath |

| This
smart paved path allows easy wheelchair access to the trip boat |

| Training
dumper drivers on our "Dream Machine" |

| Dave
Jones has made another wonderful notice board so we now have one at the entrance to the
Basin |

| The
mill race used to run between the River Leadon and the canal. Here, we have cleared the
undergrowth ready for restoring the original course as part of our overflow weir. |

| Five
girls from npower, who run a community project to help charities, spent a
day clearing the space for a new car park. |

| Tree
planting continued with more specimen trees on the gabion side of the Basin |

| The
brick service box will disguise the access to the ducting carrying services to the
moorings |

| This
unlikely looking building has become our new "smart hut" (well, it is smart
inside). Donated by Swan Hill, it is our base for displays and refreshments on Open Days.
Inside, Roy Jamieson is decorating a chair. |

| Gloucester
and District Model Boat Club have enjoyed a number of days sailing their boats on
the Basin. |

| In
early June our Volvo dumper was returned to us by the Army at Ashchurch who have rebuilt
it almost entirely |
| The
June workcamp began with the excavation of the Mill Race which dates back to the 12th
century. It runs between the canal and the River Leadon and will act as our overflow
channel. |
| Excavating
the site of the pumping station |
| Having
dug the hole for the pump shaft, three enormous concrete rings are carefully lowered into
place |
| The
yellow pipe which will link the shaft to the river was kindly supplied by Transco |
| The
third main task for the fortnight was to build up the level of the new car park and
complete its basic profile |
| Scouts
from Newent preparing for the One Star Canoe Awards |
| The
grass planted last year has grown rather too well! Charlie and the "sit-upon"
mower. |
| The
service box on the short arm (otherwise known as The Rabbit hutch) progresses |

| ...as
does the work to complete the ducting for carrying services around the Basin. |

| Through
the summer we organised a series of fundraising events. This barbeque was a great success-
despite the onset of rain! |

| Later
in the year, Over and Oxenhall volunteers enjoyed our second "annual" skittles
evening |

| By
the end of the summer, evaporation had caused the water level in the Basin to drop
severely. Sykes Pumps of Gloucester came to the rescue, lending us this pump for a week to
top up the Basin. The large structure to the right of the pump is part of the pump shaft
which will eventually provide our permanent water supply from the River Leadon. |
