Opportunities for Volunteers

Other Trust Work

Heritage Boat Restoration
Volunteers are currently working on two heritage boats. One moored at The Waterways Museum in Gloucester Docks and the other at Over Basin. The times and days of the work vary from week to week.

 

Sales Stand – volunteers are always welcome to join our roving sales stand that attends various events and functions both locally and around the country.

Grant Aid Bids – The Trust would welcome volunteers who can produce bids for appropriate grants relating to the restoration of the Canal. If you have experience or are interested in this field of work we would be pleased to hear from you.

Tuesdays

Llanthony Lock (Gloucester) – This is a new site and work currently consist of establishing site facilities and clearance of almost 100 years of undergrowth and trees from around the lock.

Oxenhall (Near Newent) – Recent work here has seen the completion of the restoration of the lock chamber. Currently we are in the final stages of restoration of the Ell Brook Aqueduct. General site conservation continues.

 

Wednesdays

Aylestone Park (Hereford) – Work includes building a slipway, towpath construction, general scrub clearance, conservation and some planting.

Over Basin (Gloucester) – Work includes an engineering workshop, trip boat refurbishing, maintenance of site facilities and equipment and projects to develop and enhance site facilities.

The Wharf House (Over Basin) – Here we are working to complete the internal fit out of the Wharf House, which is already operating as a restaurant.

 

Thursdays

Yarkhill (Herefordshire) – present work includes: Canal bank profiling, conservation, logging and general site maintenance.

 

Saturdays and some Sundays

The Wharf House (Over Basin) – present work includes: fit-out of bedrooms, painting and decorating, general DIY.
