Restoration of Llanthony begins

The Canal Trust put together a programme of work to tidy the site up over the next couple of years and to use it as a shop window for the Trust within the City of Gloucester in the future. Over the coming months exploratory surveys will be carried out and from these, developing specific work programmes which will not only stop the site from deteriorating any further but will start the long haul in realising its full potential.

There will be some preventative maintenance on the cottages to ensure that they do not deteriorate for the winter. Other priorities include the creation of car parking facilities for volunteers and visitors to the site, and starting a regime to eradicate the Japanese Knotweed, which is prevalent on the northern section by the lock.

In the longer term, all the undergrowth from around the lock will be cleared to stop any further deterioration of the brickwork, and the footbridge will need some attention.
